Shayla Harrington is an Access Services Manager at Cornell University Library, where she has worked for more than a decade in roles ranging from Late Night Assistant and Reference Assistant to managing a busy public services operation and team of eight staff. Her varied experience has given her a broad perspective on both frontline library services and the challenges of managing them. Her work focuses on finding practical, sustainable ways to improve services for library users and staff, with particular interest in data-informed decision making, staffing and management, workflow improvement, and organizational change. Shayla serves on Cornell University Library’s Access Services Leadership Team and has contributed to library-wide initiatives including the Organizational Excellence Task Force. By identifying core priorities and evaluating what can be streamlined or let go, she works to better align limited resources with the library’s mission. Outside of the library, she enjoys paddling around New York’s Finger Lakes.
