The idea to start a conference began with founder Karen Glover‘s frustration over the lack of professional development opportunities directly related to the work she performed at the Georgia Tech Library as a Circulation Librarian. She convinced her manager Stella Richardson, and other founding organizers Denita Hampton, and Catherine Downey, to help her bring the Access Services Conference into fruition. What started out as a very small event (102 attendees the first year), soon became a mid-size annual event that has spanned over a decade and continues to flourish.
The first conference was held in November of 2009 and is held annually in Atlanta, GA.
The Access Services Conference is an opportunity for individuals working in all areas of Access Services in libraries to gather information and communicate with other professionals about circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, student worker management, security, and other topics of interest.
